Foreword
President of Indonesian Geothermal Asociation
On behalf of the Indonesian Geothermal Association (INAGA), it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 11ᵗʰ Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2025, which will take place on 17 - 19 September 2025 at the Jakarta International Convention Center. This world-class event marks another milestone in our collective journey to advancing geothermal energy as a key pillar of Indonesia’s sustainable energy future.
This year’s theme, "Fostering Collaboration for a Green Economy in Indonesia: The Role of Geothermal Energy in Sustainable Growth", underscores the vital role of geothermal energy in driving economic progress while ensuring environmental sustainability. As a clean, renewable, and reliable energy source, geothermal energy is at the forefront of Indonesia’s energy transition, contributing to emission reductions, energy security, and long-term economic resilience.
Indonesia is endowed with nearly 40% of the world’s geothermal potential, yet only 11% of these resources have been utilized. This represents an immense opportunity for the nation to accelerate its geothermal development and integrate it more effectively into the green economy. INAGA remains committed to fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and facilitating knowledge-sharing to unlock the full potential of geothermal energy. By strengthening partnerships with the government, industry leaders, researchers, and local communities, we aim to create a robust investment climate, promote best practices, and advocate for policies that accelerate industry growth.
Harnessing geothermal energy is critical to achieving Indonesia’s energy self-sufficiency (swasembada energi), as outlined in Asta Cita. As a reliable and cost-effective base-load power source, geothermal energy must be accelerated to effectively replace fossil fuels. Without this acceleration, the energy transition cannot proceed, and fossil fuels cannot be phased out. The urgency of this transformation requires a concerted effort across all stakeholders to ensure geothermal energy plays a central role in securing Indonesia’s sustainable and independent energy future.
To achieve true competitiveness, the geothermal industry must strengthen collaboration across stakeholders, implement effective incentives, enhance exploration drilling efficiency, reduce capital expenditures, and optimize production. Expanding geothermal’s role beyond electricity-through direct-use applications and industrial synergies-will further maximize its value and open new economic opportunities.
Beyond power generation, geothermal energy delivers tangible benefits to local communities. It fosters job creation, regional growth, and CSR initiatives, enhancing livelihoods and sustainable employment while contributing to Indonesia’s broader economic landscape.
Geothermal development also plays a significant role in Indonesia’s GDP growth and in reaching the 75 GW renewable energy target. Strengthening its position in Indonesia’s energy landscape will further establish the country as a global leader in green energy, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable and resilient future.
Through IIGCE 2025, we reaffirm our vision of positioning Indonesia as a global leader in geothermal energy. This platform provides an invaluable opportunity to exchange insights, explore cutting-edge technologies, and build strategic partnerships that will shape the future of sustainable energy.
The synergy between geothermal energy and the green economy is key to achieving both national and global climate goals. Let us continue to collaborate, innovate, and inspire one another as we work towards harnessing the immense potential of geothermal energy for a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous future.
Sincerely,
Julfi Hadi
President of INAGA
