FOREWORD
PRESIDENT OF INDONESIAN GEOTHERMAL ASSOCIATION

It is with a full heart and pride that I welcome the government, expertise, and participants to The 9th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2023 with theme A Call for Geothermal Resources Optimization. It will be held again on 20-22 September 2023, Jakarta Convention Center.
Indonesia’s geography makes the island nation uniquely placed to tap into geothermal energy. Located by the ring of fire, the seismic activity surrounding Indonesia is extremely active, providing ample geothermal energy potential. Geothermal is regarded as a crucial resource to provide baseload supply in the long term in realizing Indonesia’s 23% renewable energy target by 2025, which target now has been significantly reduced to around 5,500 MW in 2030 under PLN’s electricity business plan (RUPTL).
The country’s geothermal resource potential is estimated at 23.9 GW. More than 2 GW of geothermal generation is already in operation today, amounting to approximately 10% of the country’s resource potential, and must be able to be utilized to the maximum. Maximizing geothermal potential can be through technological developments, for real implementation in accelerating geothermal development in Indonesia. The development of geothermal must be in accordance with the principles of Environment, Social, Government (ESG).
We are committed to generate high quality information about the updated geothermal industry in technology, knowledge, and many more at IIGCE Forum. The IIGCE is deemed as the most essential forum for geothermal industry. The event is also a milestone in our support in developing the geothermal industry in Indonesia.
It is with great pleasure that I present to you The 9th IIGCE 2023. I wish to also convey our sincere gratitude to our partner, sponsors, speakers, participants, and also media. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your unremitting support and we look forward to further meaningful working opportunities together.
Sincerely,
Indonesian Geothermal Association
Prijandaru Effendi
President
